Just a small spread of the photos from Uchi-Con 2013!
Visits to the University of Chicago are always magical. The south side of campus hosts several old, Gothic buildings dating back to the early 1900’s. Their dusty, refined character make UChi’s quads one of my favorite spots for photo shoots.
Why? Because the scenery around Harper Memorial Library’s is so dynamic! Superhero and Victorian era cosplays mingle comfortably on tall stone staircases and decaying archways, while little library nooks are perfect for lolita fashionistas and slice of life shows.
Thanks again to the UCJAS students and staff for hosting another wonderful event. I can’t wait to come back next year!
Cheers,
Lisa~Marie

SeeU’s button tutorial is underway! But in the spirit, I tried googling some new tracks by my favorite Vocaloid and eventually found this little gem.
(Edit: HD video posted)
It seems that SeeU’s singing software has become a mass media sensation all across South Korea. And we’re not just talking about another K-pop cover of SeeU’s “I=Fantasy” song. This vibrato diva has been fully integrated into GLAM’s recent live performances.
GLAM’s popularity may come as a surprise. While Hologram performances by X-Japan’s Hide and Hatsune Miku have met mixed success in Asia, while the likes of Tupac and the Gorillaz only provoke controversy in North America.
However, K-pop melds with pizzazz to create visually thrilling type of concert experience. What started as a promotional effort last July, has now turned into a show with constant onstage interaction with the hologram.
Allkpop says, “SeeU’s voice was provided by member Dahee ofBig Hit Entertainment‘s upcoming girl group, GLAM…Overall, it sure makes for an interesting promotional tactic for GLAM in particular, adding anticipation for their [now past] debut.”
In addition to dancing with the group and lending her voice, SeeU and GLAM interact with background music videos. Optical illusions break the “fourth wall” between the screen and stage, creating a refreshing form of entertainment.
What are your thoughts?
Do GLAM and their pixelated diva reign supreme in a new market? Or are SeeU’s cartoony, MMD-like graphics are a bit of a thrill killer?
Until next time,
Lisa~Marie

Listening to Vocaloid has been my pastime for over a year, but I’ve NEVER found any nice songs by CUL.
What’s CUL?
She’s a fiery virtual diva and the latest installment in the Megpoid line of Vocaloid software. I was pretty excited when I first heard about CUL’s release. Her sister software, Megpoid Gumi, has a fantastic voice range and always manages to sound nice with a little auto tuning. But most artists like to use the alto end of CUL’s range for techno remixes, which -to me- sounds terrible.
Like Nicki Minaj and Charles Dickens had a jazzy fizzle rap session in a room full of hot pink zebra print speakers… blasting nails on a chalkboard. Yes. It’s that ugly folks.(And if you managed to follow that analogy, bless you.)
So ladies and gents, there’s only one way to describe my reaction to CUL’s cover of Mirishira Romeo and Juliet:

This mix by CLAMPFANBOY is a beautify crafted piece. Instantly intoxicating even. So whether you’re new to vocaloid or an old fan, I think you’ll enjoy it too.

Who do you think sang Mirishira Romeo and Juliet better?
- The original diva, Hatsune Miku: Append?
- Or Megpoid diva, CUL?

SeeU hits the scene at Soy Con 5

-
SeeU is complete (for now)! While wearing it at Soy Con 5 this weekend, I won the Judge’s choice award in the craftsmanship competition! It was really nice surprise considering how my ears kept falling off all day. (They’re heavy!) Anyway, I had a blast and it was great to meeting some old and new friends.
Photos from the meet-up be uploaded by tonight. You can check them out on my Deviant Art page or my facebook account.
